Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Hmong Date ("we", "us", or "the App") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application. By using Hmong Date, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you have any questions, contact us at support@hmongdate.com.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, information about your device, and information generated by your use of the App.
1.1 Information you provide
- Account information: email address and password (password is never stored in plain text — it is managed by Firebase Authentication).
- Profile information: your name, date of birth, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity/clan, hometown state, languages spoken, education, family plans, religion, dialect, pets, drinking and smoking preferences, and other details you choose to share.
- Photos: profile photos you upload, and optionally a verification selfie.
- Messages and interactions: the text, images, and content of messages you send to other users, and your swipes, likes, and matches.
- Reports: if you report another user, the content and reason for your report.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Device information: device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
- Usage data: features you interact with, screens you visit, and timestamps.
- Approximate location: derived from the hometown state you provide. We do not continuously track your GPS location.
- Push notification token: a device-specific identifier used to deliver notifications, if you enable them.
1.3 Information from third parties
- Payment processors (Google Play, Apple App Store, RevenueCat): we receive confirmation of a subscription purchase, entitlement status, renewal, and cancellation. We do not receive or store your full credit card number.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account.
- To match you with other users based on your preferences, hometown, and profile details.
- To operate messaging, notifications, and other core features.
- To process subscription purchases and confirm your paid entitlements.
- To protect the safety of our users — detecting spam, harassment, fake accounts, and other misuse.
- To respond to your reports, questions, and support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
- To improve the App, fix bugs, and develop new features.
3. Legal Basis (GDPR — European users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing your personal information are:
- Performance of a contract: to provide the App and its features to you.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the platform safe, prevent fraud, and improve the service.
- Consent: for optional features like push notifications, photo verification, and marketing communications, where required.
- Legal obligation: to comply with applicable law.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- With other users: your profile (name, age, photos, and details you chose to add) is visible to potential matches. Messages you send are visible to the recipient.
- With service providers:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): hosts our authentication, database, file storage, and analytics.
- RevenueCat: processes subscription entitlements and syncs purchase status with the app stores.
- Apple & Google: process in-app purchases through the App Store and Play Store.
- With law enforcement: when we are legally required by valid subpoena, court order, or law.
- To protect rights and safety: to investigate fraud, protect our users, or enforce our Terms of Service.
- Business transfers: if Hmong Date is acquired, merged, or sold, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified before this happens.
5. Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the following rights:
- Access: request a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Correction: edit or correct your profile at any time in the app under Settings → Edit Profile.
- Deletion: permanently delete your account and data at any time from Settings → Delete Account, or via our web form: Delete My Account.
- Objection or restriction: object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
- Portability: request a machine-readable export of your data.
- Withdrawal of consent: for anything you consented to (like push notifications), you can withdraw at any time.
- Complaint: lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any right that is not self-service in the app, email support@hmongdate.com. We will respond within 30 days.
6. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it is used and shared.
- Delete personal information we have collected (with limited exceptions).
- Correct inaccurate personal information.

- Non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
Categories of personal information we collect are listed in Section 1. To exercise your rights, contact support@hmongdate.com.
7. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Your profile, photos, and swipes are permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
- Messages you have sent to other users may remain visible on their side of the conversation, associated with a "deleted user" label, unless they also delete their conversation.
- We may retain a minimal record (email hash, deletion date) for up to 12 months to prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations, and enforce policy violations.
- Backups are purged on a rolling 90-day cycle.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including HTTPS everywhere, Firebase Security Rules to restrict data access, and secure password hashing via Firebase Authentication. However, no system is 100% secure. If we become aware of a breach that affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.
9. Children's Privacy
Hmong Date is intended only for individuals aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it immediately.
